In oxy-fuel cutting, a mixture of fuel gas (in this case, LPG) and oxygen preheats the metal to its ignition temperature. A central stream of pure oxygen is then directed through the nozzle's orifice to oxidize the hot metal, and the high-pressure stream blows the molten slag away, creating the cut.
