In oxy-fuel cutting, a mixture of fuel gas (in this case, LPG) and oxygen preheats the metal to its ignition temperature. The central stream of pure oxygen is then directed through the nozzle's orifice to oxidize the hot metal, and the high-pressure stream blows the molten slag away, creating the cut.
