It uses BC type dry chemical powder, typically based on sodium bicarbonate (SBC), which works by interrupting the chemical chain reaction of fire and forming a smothering layer over burning fuel. This makes it highly effective for petrol, diesel, oils, LPG, and electrical panels.
A key feature of this extinguisher is the external CO₂ gas cartridge, which is activated during operation to pressurize the cylinder.
