A CO₂ Type Fire Extinguisher is a highly effective firefighting device that uses carbon dioxide gas to extinguish fires. It works by displacing oxygen around the fire and reducing heat, thereby stopping the combustion process.
These extinguishers are primarily used for:
- Class B fires (petrol, diesel, solvents, oils)
- Electrical fires (live equipment, panels, servers)
One of the biggest advantages of CO₂ extinguishers is that they are clean agents, meaning they leave no residue, making them ideal for sensitive environments like server rooms, laboratories, and offices.
🔧 Working Principle
CO₂ is stored as a liquefied gas under high pressure. When released:
- It expands rapidly into gas
- Displaces oxygen around flames
- Cools the fire slightly due to cold discharge
This combination effectively suffocates the fire and prevents re-ignition.
⚙️ Typical Technical Specifications
- Capacity: 2 kg / 3 kg / 4.5 kg / 9 kg
- Discharge Time: 8–15 seconds
- Range: Approx. 2–3 meters
- Working Pressure: ~100–150 bar
- Operating Temperature: -30°C to +60°C
- Fire Rating: Typically 8B to 34B
🎯 Applications
- Electrical panels & switch rooms
- Server rooms & data centers
- Offices & commercial buildings
- Laboratories & control rooms
- Petrol pumps & workshops
⚠️ Important Notes
- ❌ Not suitable for Class A fires (wood, paper, cloth)
- ❌ Not ideal for cooking oil fires (Class F)
- ⚠️ Use in well-ventilated areas (CO₂ displaces oxygen)
